Crafty

I am behind by a few posts, so I will do some quick posts here to catch up rather than continue to fall behind!

This one is from "Developing Talents"
Make an item from wood, metal, fabric, or other material, or draw, paint, or sculpt a piece of art. Display your finished work for others to see.

The girls really hoped to do a craft activity and some of them remembered these specifically.  These pictures were taken by a couple of the girls since I was sick for this activity.

Conference Call

Faith in God for Girls: Learning and Living the Gospel:
Read a recent conference address given by the prophet.  Decide what you can do to follow the prophet, and do it.
Plan and complete you own activity that will help you learn and live the gospel: Prepare for General Conference by learning more about the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

At our activity:
Each of the girls cut out her own copy of the CTR Game: Getting to Know Our Church Leaders.  They each put the members of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve in the chairs as they learned new things about each of these leaders.  They took their picture set home so they can find the right picture and put the right leader at the pulpit on the paper when he is speaking in conference.

At home:
There are SO many great things you can do to prepare for General Conference coming up this weekend!  If you have a busy week, don't worry -- some of these could be part of your conference weekend, or part of Family Home Evening or discussions at any other time.  Make General Conference important in your home!  Even if you miss it 'live", watch later, even if it has to be smaller pieces at a time.  It's worth it!

Watch!
Technology has made General Conference available to more people in more ways.  Choose how your family will participate, then DO.  If you need to make some adjustments there are many ways to do so.

Service with a SMILE

Faith in God for Girls: Serving Others
Read and discuss the parable of the good Samaritan (see Luke 10:30-37).  Plan and complete a service project that helps a family member or neighbor.  After completing the project, discuss how it helped your faith grow stronger.
At our activity:
Discussing together, the girls chose three neighborhood individuals / families they wanted to reach out to.  They did a great job choosing a variety of people: a family where the father has recently had surgery, a woman whose husband recently passed away, and a beloved Primary teacher.
The girls helped to make a cookie "pizza crust" and frosting (recipes following).  Then they each made three cards, one for each person or family.
After the cookie pizza slices were decorated with candies and syrups, they were packaged up along with the cards and delivered by the group.  The third family was not home, but the other two were.  The grins on those girls' faces were worth every calorie!

At home:
Because we had so much to do we didn't have time for all the discussion that would have completed this activity.  We did discuss the reasons the girls chose these particular people, and how to write a note to them.  We did not have time to discuss the parable of the good Samaritan, or the follow-up discussion of how the activity felt and how it helped each girl's faith grow stronger.  This would be an excellent discussion to have one-on-one or in a family discussion at dinner, in the car, or in Family Home Evening.

Another opportunity would be to do this activity again as a family.  Reach out to a family member, neighbor, new friend or old friend.  Practice writing meaningful notes.  Discuss various ways to serve others.
