Seek ye out of the best books...

Faith in God for Girls: Developing our Talents
Read D&C 88:118.  Discuss what it means to "seek learning, even by study and also by faith." Improve your personal study habits by doing such things as learning how to choose and read good books or being prepared for school each day.

D&C 88:118
And as all have not faith, seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith.

Since the new school year has recently started, now is a great time to remember how to enjoy learning!

At our activityEach girl brought a favorite book (or two) to share today.  After reading and discussing the scripture verse above, each girl took a couple of minutes to tell us about her favorite book.  We also discussed ways a book can make you feel, when you may choose to not read a particular book, and how to choose a new book to read.

At home: Ask what books each family member enjoys reading.  Take a trip to the library and find a new book to try, or try a book in a new genre (fantasy, historical fiction, realistic fiction, mystery, etc.).  Read a book together as a family and talk about your favorite parts.  Use a non-fiction book to learn a new skill (activity, cooking, exercise, craft, etc.).  Keep a list of books you have read and give each book a rating after you have read it and share the list with a friend.

Books shared at our activity today:
Bring me the Head of Willy the Mail Boy (a Dilbert comic book) by Scott Adams
Number the Stars by Lois Lowry
Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull
Tonight on the Titanic (The Magic Tree House series, book #17) by Mary Pope Osborne

Welcome!

We hope to use this blog to make the Activity Days program a useful part of our lives.
Here you can see what we're doing and what the point is of our activities!

You can find a link to the "Faith in God for Girls" pamphlet at the bottom of the page.  Each girl should have her own book to keep track of projects as well.  Our activities are planned around a theme from the pamphlet.  Some of the lessons we teach have parts that can be brought into your home with an opportunity for a Family Home Evening lesson or activity, a special scripture discussion or study period, or just a discussion about the topic and how it applies to their lives.

For the sake of privacy I have chosen a name and address for this blog with initials rather than the name of our group.  If you are uncomfortable having your child's picture posted here (no names, no specific locations) let me know and we will work around that.

Thanks for joining us!  We're delighted to have your daughter/s with us!
